 Andrés
Lacau has studied painting, sculpture, engraving and drawing
at the Academy of Fine Arts "San Alejandro" in Havana. In
1969 he finished high musical studies at the National
Conservatoire "Amadeo Roldán" and 1978 he graduated in
French philology at the University of Havana.
Established in Spain since 1981, he continues working along
the informalist current until 1995. From that year on, his
constant search of new expressive capabilities drive him
towards bullfighting and its liturgy, beginning a protracted
cycle of mythological series (I-IV) inspired on legends
which stem out from those great cultures of the ancient
world linked to the bull as a sacrificial animal, the holder
of supernatural virtues.
At this moment he is working in a new series in which he
envelopes poetry and imagery - aiming to show, in its full
strength, the consecration of human efforts in the face of
its existential sudden changes. In the words of the American
poet , Louis Bourne: “… these are powerful images that,
showing the simplicity of a body in the process of
disappearing, imprint the memory with unusual models of
piety for human life in all its precariousness…”
His works have been displayed in Spain, the United States,
Brazil, etc.
